A CMS Certification Number (CCN) is a 6-digit identifier assigned to every Medicare-certified facility. RCI parses the CCN to determine the facility’s geographic and operational context, which drives L1 (location) and L2 (facility type) knowledge resolution.

Both can be stored on a facility in RCI, but the CCN is what drives knowledge layer resolution.
